Proposed flight to the West Coast of Abe Reles was squelched by Brooklyn district attorney William O'Dwyer. Reles, whose talking helped authorities in breaking up Brooklyn's notorious Murder Inc., was to have flown to Los Angeles to testify against Benjamin Siegel. O'Dwyer refused to permit the trip because of the "weakness" of the case against "Bugs," the charges against Siegel were dismissed in Los Angeles after O'Dywer's refusal was received there. This photograph of Reles taken at express request of the Brooklyn district attorney's office to prove that Reles was not ill to travel, if he could gotten permission.
